Staff Sgt. Eugene H.E. Alex, 32, was shot by hostile forces in Baghdad on Sept. 2, 2006, according to military reports.
Alex, a native of Bay City, Mich., was on extended duty when the attack occurred. He was medevacked to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, where he died.
Alex was assigned to 4th Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team based at Fort Wainwright.
