Staff Sgt. Carletta Davis, a native of Anchorage, died Nov. 5, 2007 when a roadside bomb detonated near her armored vehicle outside of Tal Al-Dahab, Iraq, according to military reports.

Davis was a combat medic assigned to the 10th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), based at Fort Drum, N.Y.

The 34-year-old mother of three graduated from East High School in 1991. She was in the midst of her third tour of duty in Iraq and had been awarded the Purple Heart once before.

Family and friends say Davis had dreamed of returning to the States and becoming a physician's assistant.
