KENAI, Alaska — In this week's Channel 2 Fishing Report, John Carpenter tries his luck on the Kenai.
The sun shone through the haze Wednesday morning on the Kenai River. While the weather has been red-hot here lately, the king salmon fishing is just starting to heat up.
"Ever since we started July, it's been good," said Jimmie Jack of Jimmie Jack Fishing. "Good numbers, so it hasn't been crazy excellent, there's been spots of it, but it's good."
Jack says he's seen a lot of strange things in his years guiding anglers on the Kenai, but he's never seen the water temperatures this high.
"Fifty-nine degrees, I haven't seen it that warm since I got a fish finder," Jack said. "That's not good, salmon like it 48 to 52 so we're going to have to find some more active fish."
Finding fish early doesn't seem to be a problem. All around us anglers are hooking up and it's not long before our boat ties into one.
