ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A paratrooper assigned to Fort Richardson has been killed in combat in Afghanistan.
Sgt. 1st Class Jason Hickman of Kingsport, Tenn., was killed Jan. 7 at Forward Operating Base Salemo from wounds suffered at Combat Outpost Bowri Tana during an incident in which his post was hit by the explosion of a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device and small arms fire.
Hickman, 35, was a combat engineer assigned to A Company, Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division.
Hickman joined the Army in April 1999 and served in an engineer battalion at Fort Bragg, N.C., in a recruiting battalion in Wisconsin and in Iraq prior to arriving in Alaska in May 2008.
