ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Anchorage Police are investigating a shooting that happened between 3:00 and 4:00 Thursday afternoon on a trail near East High School, but they're not exactly sure where.

The victim, 27-year-old Jesse Kern, drove himself to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.

He said he had been stopped by a group of Asian males and one Samoan male who pulled a long gun out of a duffel bag and shot him.

Kern described the shooter as 6-feet tall, weighing more than 230 pounds and wearing a black puffy North Face jacket with a black hoodie underneath and black cargo pants. The other five males were described as Asian.

Around 7 p.m. police continued to search a bike trail near the high school, but couldn't figure out where the man was shot or even if his story was adding up.

"I don't know at this point, but the investigation will certainly bear out the validity of the story," Lt. Dave Parker said.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen something to give them a call.
