JUNEAU, Alaska -- Pat Gamble, the president and chief executive of the Alaska Railroad Corp., has been chosen as the University of Alaska system's next president.
The Board of Regents released its decision Tuesday.
Gamble was one of three finalists to replace Mark Hamilton, who last year announced plans to retire. The others were John Pugh, chancellor of the University of Alaska Southeast, and Lisa A. Rossbacher, president of Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Ga.
The 64-year-old Gamble is a retired four-star Air Force general. He's been CEO of the state-owned railroad since 2001.
The annual salary for the position is $295,000. Gamble said he expects to begin in the position in June.
