JUNEAU, Alaska -- The state plans to bid on a Chevron Corp. building in Anchorage to secure more office space for lawmakers.
The six-story, 55,000-square-foot building -- valued at $1.8 million -- would replace the 42,000 square feet of space the Legislature now leases in the area. Dozens of lawmakers use the space while the Legislature is not in session.
Rep. John Harris, chairman of legislative housekeeping panel that ordered a bid Monday, said the issue's not an "absolute urgency" since the Legislature has up to four years of lease renewal options left on the existing space.
