ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A collision on the Seward Highway near Turnagain Pass killed a woman Thursday afternoon.

Alaska State Troopers say the crash happened just before 4 p.m. at Mile 68. On Friday they identified the deceased as 21-year-old Natalie Smith of Soldotna.

Sgt. Eugene Fowler said it appears the wreck happened when Smith, driving a PT Cruiser, pulled out in front of a tractor-trailer.

"Passersby stopped and tried to attend to her medical needs but she was pronounced deceased on the scene," Fowler said.

The driver of the semi was not hurt and Fowler said alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
