ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The Soroptimist Club of Anchorage held a special community baby shower Saturday at Sears Mall for hundreds of new moms.

The club collects gifts and then divides them among community organizations such as Abused Women's Aid in Crisis and the Salvation Army. Organizers say people donated thousands of baby items.

"We collect all these baby items for four social service agencies," said the club's Nila Fankhauser. "They're divided among those agencies for the babies, who normally their moms wouldn't receive a shower, wouldn't have nice things for their babies -- and we're able to provide them."

This is the fifth year for the community baby shower.
