JUNEAU, Alaska -- The state Board of Fisheries asked the Legislature to look over Alaska's mining permitting process and take any steps it deems necessary to protect fish and game near the site of the proposed Pebble Mine.

Legislative Council Chair Rep. John Harris, R- Valdez, says his committee does not currently have money earmarked for such a review.

But he says there are funds for a different project, which could be re-appropriated by the Finance Committee.

"I personally am not opposed to what the recommendation or the request is, but we'll work through it and like I said, if the Legislature wants to do it, I don't have any problem with supporting it," Harris said.
