Every dollar helps in this tough economy, whether you want to find a cheaper place to rent or cut your car payments.

There are websites out there that can help you keep more of your dollars in your wallet.

"I was able to save $20,000," said Robert Deck. He and his wife are now driving a Mini Cooper and he is delighted about it.

They got out of a real jam. He was driving a leased BMW, for over $800 a month, an almost $20,000 payoff. It was something he could no longer afford in this tough economy.

"My wife is actually a teacher and she works about a mile away, so we share a car right now and we got a much more economical car as far as gas, you know, mileage. It does much better," Deck said.

Deck found out about a series of websites that can, when combined, save you money on every type of monthly bill. He used the auto component of the concept, leasetrader.com, and he was able to unload his expensive BMW lease.

"This is just one avenue where somebody who's perhaps made a decision back when they were making a different level of income or their situation has changed and they find themselves in a pinch," said Cathy Pereto, a finance expert.

Pereto told the CIU the concept of pooling web resources to cut your bills makes saving money much easier. She says Deck also had access to another site, rentometer.com, which will show you what others in your neighborhood are paying for rent. Armed with that information, visit your landlord.

"I go to my landlord and I say, ‘Listen, this market might warrant that my payments are lower,'" Pereto said.

Under billshrink.com, you can also find deal on things like cell phones, DSL service and credit cards, and it all adds up.

"This website will help you look for which provider will give you the best deal, basically, in terms of rate and in terms of perks. The big picture is having a lifestyle that's centric around a good money management process," Pereto said.

Deck said that by saving money by driving the less expensive car he's actually been able to take those savings and start up a new business venture that he hopes will prosper soon.
