FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- State troopers have identified the passenger killed in a head-on collision Friday on the Parks Highway.
Timothy Neil Clayton II, a soldier posted at Fort Wainwright, died when a 1992 Pontiac driven northbound by 18-year-old Alecia Loraine Phillips of Wasilla attempted to pass a 2003 Subaru Forester shortly before 9 p.m. Phillips' car collided with the Subaru, sending her vehicle into the path of a 2003 Kenworth truck tractor pulling double trailers heading southbound.
Phillips and Clayton were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck, Michael John Myers, 41, was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Subaru, 27-year-old Adam Joseph Gillette, was not injured.
Troopers say everyone involved in the crash was wearing seat belts, and alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash.
