ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Anchorage police are looking for a man who opened fire at a Memorial Day weekend barbecue in Valley of the Moon Park.

Witnesses told police Saroeun Muon was cooking with his family when a group approached. Police say they started fighting, then someone pulled out a gun. The shooter took off in a car, leaving Muon behind with gunshot wounds to his hand and torso.

Police aren't saying whether the gunman and victim had a connection, but are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related.

Several witnesses gave a description of the getaway vehicle to police, and officials are asking any other witnesses who haven't yet come forward to contact them at 786-8900.

"This was a very brazen attack in front of families with children in Valley of the Moon Park," said police spokesperson Lt. Dave Parker. "They were there to enjoy their weekend, and then this incident took place -- complete disregard for not only their feelings, but also their safety."

Police haven't yet made an arrest in the shooting. Doctors expect Muon to make a full recovery.
