ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Being a mother is often called a thankless job, but two Alaska moms got some thanks Thursday.
Laurel Pfanmiller-Azegami and Brenda Noble received legislative citations for being the state's Mother and Young Mother of the Year. The honor comes from American Mothers, Inc., a non-profit, inter-faith organization that's also the official sponsor of Mother's Day. Every year, it names a remarkable mother from nominees among the 50 states.
"It's wonderful to work and rub shoulders with other women who value motherhood, and with their husbands and with other community members who prize motherhood -- it is the most important job that one can do," said Pfanmiller-Azegami.
"My sweet husband says I'm the Mother of the Year, whether anyone says so or not -- my kids, there are times when they disagree, but they're pretty excited about it," Noble said.
