Channel 2 Newshour wins 2010 Mark Twain Award

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- KTUU's Channel 2 Newshour has received the Associated Press Television-Radio Association's 2010 Mark Twain Award for Best 60-Minute News Broadcast among small to midsize TV stations in Western states.

Several broadcasters were in the running for the Class 2 award, which is given to the best one-hour newscast produced by a TV station with fewer than 50 newsroom employees.

Many other Mark Twain Award winners were named during the association's 63rd annual awards ceremony, held Saturday night at Disneyland's Paradise Pier Hotel in Anaheim, Calif.

APTRA's Station of the Year is Aberdeen, Washington radio station KXRO, led by news director Ian Cope.

The prestigious Stan Chambers Extraordinary Achievement Award went to Jean Enerson of Seattle's KING-TV. Enerson has been reporting and anchoring the news in the Seattle area for more than 42 years.

The association also announced this year's Hall of Fame inductees Saturday, including radio personality Rush Limbaugh and Seattle Mariners announcer Dave Niehaus.

Mark Twain Award competitive winners are selected from broadcaster entries from the 2009 calendar year in California, Nevada, Hawaii, Arizona, New Mexico, Washington, Idaho, Colorado, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska.
