ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Artwork and nature were center stage at the Alaska Botanical Garden Thursday night.
The midsummer Gala in the Garden traditionally kicks off the garden's summer activities. The annual event gives artists a chance to showcase their works, nestled into the beautiful pathways and plantings throughout the grounds.
The botanical garden will also hold its Garden Fair this weekend June 26 and 27, offering some of its unique flowers for sale, as well as art, food and music.
Officials say locals are surprised when they see the diversity of plants and blooming flowers.
"This is a wonderful setting, showing off Alaska's plants that you can bring your family and friends to," said art show coordinator Cindy Shake. "We have an incredible herb garden -- people have weddings here."
The Garden Fair starts at 11 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
