UAA ski coach wins Mt. Marathon men's race

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Trond Flagstad, a ski coach for UAA, won the Mount Marathon men's race Sunday with a time of 44:40.

The win made a great birthday present for his wife and son, according to race announcers, and his wife is due to have another child any day.

Flagstad, who also won the race in 2008, held the top spot at the top of the mountain and kept the lead, finishing uncontested.

Eric Strabel took second place with a time of 45:42.

Matias Saari, last year's winner, took third, likely setting a personal record in the race with his time of 46:10.

Brent Knight, who was in the lead in last year's race until he collapsed on the final stretch, took fourth.
