Alaska Natural Gas Authority readies gas bid for Denali Pipeline

September 13, 2010|by Rebecca Palsha

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority (ANGDA) is getting ready to bid for gas in the Denali Pipeline's open season on behalf of Railbelt Power Companies.

Earlier this year, ANGDA bid for gas with Transcanada's proposed pipeline.

ANGDA is expected to also bid in the BP and Conoco Phillips proposed pipeline's open season which will come to a close on October 4.

The bids ANGDA is making for natural gas are conditional, as none of the utilities have made any commitment, but ANGDA says purchasing North Slope gas in the future will be more expensive and bidding during open season will secure a 30 percent discount on the cost of shipping gas.

Denali says they can't disclose information about bids, but they expect the negotiation process to last through the beginning of next year.
