KTUU predicts PFD around $1300

September 13, 2010|by Ashton Goodell

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Everyone wants to know the dollar amount for this year's PFD payout and there are a lot of good guesses out there, but nobody will really know what it will be until it's officially announced next week.

Our best predictions indicate the payout will be pretty close to last year's, which was $1,305.

We estimate this year's payment will be between $1,295 and $1,329. We made our guess using our own formula.

The State Revenue Department reports $858 million in investment profits from the state's oil-wealth savings account.

We took that number and factored in what the state reserved for last year's liabilities and a few other considerations and divided that by the estimated number of eligible applicants.

How the market performs affects the size of the payout. The amount is also averaged between the last five dividend years.

More than 600,000 people applied for the PFD and about 95 percent of those people are eligible.

The Permanent Fund Division is still working on the official number and the Gov. Sean Parnell plans to announce the size of the check next Tuesday.
