Seawolves drop out of volleyball top 25

September 13, 2010|by John Carpenter

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Seawolf volleyball team has dropped out of the Division II top 25. The Demotion comes after UAA had mixed results on an eight-match road trip.

Chris Green and company played three top 15 opponents and another returning NCAA Tournament squad during that stretch and finished 4-4.

The Seawolves also played the entire trip minus star middle blocker Cortney Lundberg. The senior is still recovering from an ankle injury.

UAA still feels good about its long-term chances, especially should Lundberg return healthy.

“Not having her on the court hurt us, but no excuses. We still beat a very good team in Cal San Bernardino... So the potential for us being a good team down the road is there," said Coach Chris Green.

"Being able to play other teams not in our conference allows us to be able to play different teams and get better for our conference when it really does matter," said Robyn Burton, UAA middle blocker.
