ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) has reported that it will be cancelling some scheduled ferry stops because of gale force winds in the Gulf of Alaska.
The Kennicott ferry run between Homer and Kodiak on Friday, Oct. 1, along with the Chenega ferry between Cordova, Valdez and Whittier for Oct. 1 and Oct. 2 has been cancelled.
According to a press release from AMHS, stormy weather is approaching the Kodiak area and is expected to continue through to Prince William Sound over the weekend.
Passengers with tickets for this weekend’s ferry sailings will have their reservations rescheduled.
To accommodate displaced Chenega passengers, AMHS will add an additional sailing between Cordova, Valdez, Whittier and Cordova Monday, Oct. 4. AMHS will not take new reservations for Monday’s sailing until passengers who previously had reservations on the Friday or Saturday sailings have been accommodated.
The Kennicott is expected to return to its regular schedule Saturday, Oct. 2, departing at 11:30 p.m. from Kodiak to Homer.
For more information, passenger can call the AMHS Central Reservations office at 1-800-642-0066 or click here to go to the AMHS website.
