Sullivan prepares to announce city budget

October 01, 2010|by Jason Lamb

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan's office is getting ready to release its budget for next year. Sullivan’s office has warned that the city could face shortfalls in 2011 of about $20 million.

The Anchorage Police Department Employees Association has been critical of Sullivan, and says 10 to 20 police officers are at risk of being laid off to help pay for the shortfall.

Sullivan has called APDEA’s claims inaccurate and inappropriate. He will announce his official budget outlining his spending plan to Anchorage Assembly members at noon Friday.

Channel 2 and KTUU.com will carry extensive coverage of this story Friday, including a live stream of a press conference on the budget at 1:30 p.m. on KTUU.com. Also, watch the 5:00 Report for reaction from Assembly members and a live interview with Mayor Sullivan.
