Aces score overtime win over Steelheads

October 22, 2010|by Charlie Sokaitis

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Alaska Aces welcomed the Idaho Steelheads into the not-so-friendly confines of Sullivan Arena Friday night, as both sides put points on the board in short order.

In the third period, the game was tied at 2 and looking destined for overtime with 1:23 left to play, when Scot Burt scored his second goal of both the game and the year.

The Aces appeared poised to skate off with the win, but with 28 seconds left on the clock Idaho’s Mark Derlago shocked Aces fans by equalizing the scoreboard at 3-all.

Those fans went home happy, however, as Steve Ward sank an overtime puck to provide a perfect ending and win the game 4-3. The win improves the Aces to 2-1 on the year.
