ANCHORAGE, Alaska — An Anchorage TV station has fired two producers after Joe Miller’s U.S. Senate campaign accused staff members of attempting to fabricate stories about Miller.
According to the Miller campaign, a voicemail left by an employee from Alaska CBS affiliate KTVA recorded for longer than intended and caught a conversation between newsroom employees.
In a press release, KTVA general manager Jerry Bever says the voicemail simply recorded staff members discussing potential scenarios -- and then it went “downhill.”
Bever says as a matter of station policy the names of the two producers will not be released, but says neither news director Staci Feger nor assignment editor Nick McDermott were among those fired.
Bever went on to say he believes the station's coverage of Miller has been fair.
