ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The art show "Expressions," a unique way to observe National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month, was unveiled Friday at Out North Theater. All of the artwork was created by Alaskans with memory impairment.
The show is the first of its kind in Alaska, but organizers hope to put on the event again. The art show focuses on the strengths of people who have the disease, and organizers say they have seen tremendous support.
“The goal is to bring awareness to Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, but focus also on the positives, which is education and support and services and the communities where people are taking care of loved ones who have Alzheimer’s,” said Lisa Wawrzonek with Alzheimer’s Resources of Alaska.
A few art pieces in the show will be for sale Saturday night at Wine Styles in South Anchorage.
