Author signs book about dog's Appalachian Trail journey

November 06, 2010|by Channel 2 News staff

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Author Pam Flowers signed copies of "Ellie's Long Walk," a children’s book about an amazing adventure and a remarkable dog, at the Petco store on Dimond Boulevard Saturday.

Pam and her rescued dog, Ellie, traveled more than 2,100 miles from Maine to Georgia on the Appalachian Trail, a 199-day journey chronicled in Flowers’ book.

Flowers says she wrote the story to describe the joy of having Ellie on the trail and achieving a lifelong goal.

“It was something that I wanted to do my whole life, and I always promised myself if I can make it to 62, that was my gift for making it that far,” Flowers said.

All proceeds from the book will go to Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue, the organization which brought Flowers and Ellie together.
