ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Juneau School District is tapping into its savings account to cover costs associated with older students returning to high school.
The 5,000-student district says it didn't account for 20 students older than 19 -- who are not covered by state education funding -- and must now spend more than $400,000 on their education this year.
JSD spokesperson Kristen Bartlett says money from last year's savings will be used to cover the shortfall, and the district plans to account for older returning students in next year's budget.
