Gallery owners hold Thanksgiving food drive in Midtown

November 14, 2010|by Channel 2 News staff

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The owners of Havens Studio and Gallery organized their fourth annual Thanksgiving food drive Sunday to benefit the Downtown Soup Kitchen.

All this weekend, Andi and James Havens collected turkeys, hams, and fixings at the Midtown Fred Meyer. Each person who donated received a valuable signed print from James Havens, and the Havens hope to collect enough food for 275 familes.

“So that we can actually help some of these families -- the economy is really rough right now, and some of these families don't have anything to have for a Thanksgiving,” said Andi Havens. “This is what we do, and it makes us feel good to give back to the community.”

The food drive will continue next weekend at the Midtown Fred Meyer from noon until 6 p.m.
