Court rejects AFN attempt to intervene in Miller lawsuit

November 16, 2010|By Channel 2 News staff

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A request by the Alaska Federation of Natives to intervene in Joe Miller's lawsuit against the state has been denied.

A federal judge responded in a written statement Tuesday saying, “The State of Alaska is responsible for and fully capable of representing the interests of all its citizens.”

AFN filed the motion Monday saying the Miller campaign's lawsuit was trying to disenfranchise Alaska Native voters by invalidating their votes.

Miller is suing the State Division of Elections and the lt. governor, arguing the law requires write-in votes to be spelled perfectly.
