ANCHORAGE, Alaska — It's cold and dry in Anchorage lately, but the University of Alaska Anchorage cross-country ski team is opening the season anyway -- in Fairbanks.
The Seawolves and the UAF Nanooks will be going head-to-head for the seventh annual Alaska Nordic Cup. UAF has four straight wins in the series, but Seawolves coach Trond Flagstad returns All-American Jamie Bronga and a talented squad capable of a podium finish at the NCAA tournament.
“We're looking good,” Flagstad said. “We have quite a few new people on the team, we have our big recruiting class from 2008 coming back -- it's a deep team, we're really excited.”
