December 03, 2010|by Channel 2 News staff

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage is undoubtedly a military community, with thousands of personnel from area bases serving overseas. That’s why Operation Morale Boost, a group created by a local radio personality, is planning an event Saturday to honor local soldiers.

KFAT 92.9's Kim "Kimtageous" Mendez says the event, scheduled for 2 to 7:30 p.m. at the old Gottschalks store in the Northway Mall, is being organized in cooperation with Ma’o Tosi of AK Pride. It will feature a military showcase as well as dancing and Polynesian food. Admission is free for service members and their families, and a recommended $5 donation for the general public.

Mendez says Operation Morale Boost also hopes to arrange monthly care-package parties at which the group will assemble packages for shipment to soldiers overseas.
