Alaska skier Kikkan Randall continues to impress on the world stage, capturing her fifth-ever World Cup podium by taking second in a freestyle sprint in Dusseldorf, Germany on Saturday.
After a poor start, the three-time Olympian put the pedal to the metal, overtaking Vesna Fabjan of Slovenia on the home stretch to capture the silver along with 10,000 Swiss francs (just over $10,000).
The performance shows the growth of Randall as a Nordic skier: tough climbs have been the key to her big moves in past sprints, but the Dusseldorf course is largely flat. In her two previous races in Dusseldorf, Randall's top finish was 28th place.
