Lauren Magiera was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Just like everyone else in her family she took on athletics at a very young age, and stuck with it. After her older sister moved away for college she was too impatient to write letters, so she used a camera to film updates about her life and sent the tapes to her sister. That’s when her love for broadcast began, which combined with her lifelong affinity for sports to make her dream of becoming a sportscaster.
She moved to Alaska when she accepted a full gymnastics scholarship at the University of Alaska Anchorage. She was a UAA gymnast for four years while earning her bachelor's degree in journalism and public communications with a concentration in broadcast media.
During college, Lauren was a full-time intern at ABC Channel 13 in Anchorage for two summers. Shortly before she graduated, the station hired her as a 10 p.m. sports anchor/reporter; one year later she was promoted to sports director at Channel 13. A year after that Lauren made her transition to Channel 2, where she has joined the KTUU Sports team as a sports reporter/fill-in anchor.
