ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage's Kikkan Randall will get to keep the bronze medal she won during a World Cup nordic ski race Sunday in Switzerland. Randall said on her blog on Thursday that the FIS denied an appeal by the Polish team that protested the disqualification of one of their skiers, resulting in Randall moving up to the podium.
Randall actually finished Sunday's 1.4 kilometer sprint race in fourth position, but she was bumped up one spot after Poland's Justyna Kowalczyk, the eventual bronze medalist, was disqualified after race officials determined she had impeded Randall on the final stretch of the race.
The result gives Randall podium finishes in consecutive weekends. Randall also said on her blog she would not compete this weekend in France because she is feeling sick.
