Early goal boosts Aces to victory

December 28, 2010|by Kevin Wells

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Alaska Aces collected their fifth-straight win on Tuesday with a 3-2 victory over the Idaho Steelheads.

The win enables Alaska to leapfrog Idaho for second place in the ECHL Mountain Division. The Aces now have 33 points, one more than the Steelheads.

Jerad Stewart got the Aces rolling just 70 seconds into regulation with a shot that picked the upper left corner of the net.

After Idaho forged a 1-1 tie, Kory Falite gave the Aces a lead they would not relinquish with a power play goal at 14:09 of the first.

Gary Nunn provided the eventual game-winning tally early in the third.  For the night, Alaska out-shot the injury-depleted Steelheads, 43-10.

The two teams resume their three-game series on Wednesday night.
