ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Alaska Pacific University Nordic ski program and the state of Alaska in general enjoyed another stellar day at the U.S. National Championships in Rumford, Maine. Previous Olympians Lars Flora and James Southam, both from Anchorage and APU, went No. 1 and 2 in the men's 15K championship race.
Flora clocked in with a time of 43:29.1, while Southam finished 18 seconds behind. UAF teammates David Norris and Lex Treinen gave Alaska a sweep of the top four places.
In the women's 10K, Anchorage's Sadie Bjornsen took the title with a time of 32:09.9. Bjornsen's APU teammate Morgan Smyth took second in 32:40.9, while APU's Kate Fitzgerald finished fifth. Holly Brooks, the Anchorage skier and APU coach who won the sprint race on Sunday, claimed seventh place in 33:21.6
Racing at U.S. Nationals continues with women's 20K and men's 30K races on Thursday.
