ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A climber making his first solo ascent of Mt. McKinley was planning to rest Friday before a weekend attempt on the summit. Lonnie Dupre said on his blog Thursday that he had reached the mountain’s 17,200-foot base camp.

Throughout his January ascent, Dupre has been digging snow caves instead of using a tent. He’s also been posting text and photos from his ascent, as well as audio clips describing his progress.
