ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Alaska State Troopers and local rescue organizations rescued four Anchorage men involved in an avalanche near Summit Lake Lodge Saturday.
Troopers say they received a call at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday from James Mitchell, 58, reporting that he and three other men -- Adam Baxter, 28, Adam Sanders and Peter McDonald, 34 -- were skiing when they were caught in an avalanche.
One person escaped and immediately rescued another. The other two in the group were found soon after with aid from troopers' Helo-1, the Nordic Ski Patrol and the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group, thanks to avalanche beacons they were carrying.
Officials say three of the men were injured and flown to the hospital, while the uninjured man was taken to the lodge's parking lot.
