Holiday laptop drive for foster kids continues

January 30, 2011|by Amberia Hill | Channel 2 News

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A push to provide foster youth across the state with laptop computers, started over the holidays last year, is continuing to grow.

Anchorage Rep. Les Gara says the Carr Family Foundation recently gave $5,000 for new portable computers, and the community has donated more than a dozen laptops. Volunteers are still collecting laptop donations at Gara’s office.

Gara says the program is about giving kids a fair shot at life, and ensuring that foster youth are on the same level playing field as other kids.

“You know, if you have computer assignments in school, you should able to do them,” Gara said.

To donate a new or gently used computer, call Gara's office at (907)465-2647.
