Iron Dog Day 3: First Trail Class Team Hits Nome

February 22, 2011|By Kortnie Horazdovsky | KTUU.com

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — (12:41 p.m.) I spoke too soon -- phones have rang three times in the last five minutes or so. Team 25 - Watson/Price is through Unalakleet.

(12:39 p.m.) Team 20 - Swenson/Peterson is laying over in Galena.

(12:37 p.m.) Slow times here at HQ. Trail class Teams 54/51/52 are through Koyuk.

(11:59) One of the organizers here says Marc McKenna lost some time this morning when he blew a belt on the Yukon. He was in the lead by a couple minutes and ended up coming in a few minutes behind Palin/Quam.

(11:31) Ophir just called and said Team 27 is looking for a shock on rush order. They and Team 30 are through Ophir. I'm not sure who is supposed to heed that call.

(11:04 a.m.) Team 20 - Swenson/Peterson is in and out of Ruby.

---------------------

(10:51 a.m.) Team 18 - Williamson/Hingsbergen has gone through Shaktoolik.

(10:47 a.m.)

The Nome Nugget has a webcam on front street. None of the other teams will be coming in for quite a while, but here's the link: http://www.visitnomealaska.com/nome-web-cam.html

-----------------------

(10:31 a.m.)

The first trail-class team has made it into Nome: Team 45 - Perrins/Perrins.

There's been a lot of support for this team on the Iron Dog Facebook page "The Perrins Boys," everyone keeps asking about.

Shane Perrins is 27 and Colton 21. Colton works at the Rainy Pass Lodge and both have been longtime volunteers at the Puntilla Lake checkpoint, where the lodge is.
