ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A snowmachine accident early Sunday morning claimed the lives of two Wasilla residents.

Alaska State Troopers say 23-year-old Eric Zehnder and 22-year-old Kimber Velasquez were riding just before 1:30 a.m., near Mile 17 of Petersville Road in Trapper Creek, when their snowmachine apparently went over a steep embankment and threw them both off.

Officials say both Zehnder and Velasquez were wearing helmets and that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
