ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The decorated Nordic Ski program at UAA is looking for a new head coach.
Trond Flagstad, who led the squad for the last seven seasons, has stepped down from his position. The program is also losing assistant coach Mandy Kaempf, a former NCAA champion at UAA. In a press release issued by the university, both coaches cited personal reasons for their departures.
Two weeks ago, Flagstad led the Seawolves to a seventh-place finish at the 2011 NCAA championships, the team's ninth top-10 result during his time with the program that he initially joined as an assistant coach in 2001. UAA's best NCAA finish under Flagstad came in 2009, when the Seawolves took fourth.
UAA skiers earned 30 All-American honors during Flagstad's tenure as head coach.
UAA Athletic Director Dr. Steve Cobb says a national search for both the head and assistant positions will begin immediately.
