ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Alaska Zoo held an event today to teach people how to be safe in bear country. This free annual event is put on by the Anchorage Bear Committee and the Department of Fish & Game.
Bear Aware day featured activity stations that showed guests how far a bear can smell. They also taught how to safely use bear spray and how to minimize risks of a bear encounter.
Experts also spoke about other things that can attract bears like bird feeders, pet food and barbeque grills.
The bears themselves even helped in the event by demonstrating how bear-resistant trash cans hold up to regular containers. Watch the video here at KTUU.com.
