ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage happy hour fans, take heart.
The city may have tight laws restricting what bars and restaurants can offer in terms of drink specials, but food is a whole another story: That’s limited only by the imaginations of local chefs.
Appetizers specials are a great way to sample a restaurant's offerings, says Kinley's Restaurant & Bar manager Marty Kimball.
Here are a few of our favorites:

Hott Stixx is, like many Anchorage gems, tucked into an unassuming strip mall along with a dollar store and dry cleaners. But inside, you’ll find lovingly-prepared world fusion food that has garnered a local clientele of regulars.
Hott Stixx offers half-off appetizers like walnut tiger prawns, which are flash-fried and tossed in honey aioli with toasted walnuts. The result is something that tastes almost candy-like, says co-owner John Yee. There’s also a dim sum sampler with pillow-y hand-made Chinese pork dumplings, plus pork belly “laughing buns.” The buns are so-named because they force your face into a broad smile – through sheer deliciousness – as you eat them.
