Army IDs Fort Wainwright Stryker Killed in Afghanistan

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — U.S. Army Alaska released the name Saturday of a Fort Wainwright soldier who was killed in Afghanistan Thursday.

Sgt. Jeffrey C.S. Sherer, 29, died June 2 after his unit was attacked with an improvised explosive device in the city of Shah Joy in Afghanistan.

Sherer was an infantryman assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.

Sherer, of Four Oaks, North Carolina, joined the Army in December 2005.

Seven other Stryker brigade soldiers were wounded in the attack.

Next of kin have been notified.
