ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage police have identified the woman who was shot in the head Thursday night at a Midtown youth treatment center, as well as the suspect taken into custody.
According to APD spokesperson Lt. Dave Parker, officers responded shortly after 6:15 p.m. to reports of a female volunteer shot at the Soteria House on the 3200 block of Doris Street.
Officers found 19-year-old Mozelle Nalan, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, in the back yard along with 21-year-old Michael McEvoy. Witnesses identified McEvoy as the shooter, saying he fired the last round into Nalan as she was lying on the deck.
Nalan was immediately taken to the hospital for surgery, but remains in critical condition.
McEvoy was taken into custody on charges of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and two counts of third-degree assault. He is being held without bail at the Anchorage Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon.
