ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage police have arrested two suspects in the Mountain View beating of a man Sunday -- one of whom is also facing witness-tampering charges after allegedly threatening a couple who tried to aid the victim.
Rex Faumui, 18, and Patrick Tauanuu, 22, were arrested Sunday following APD's response to reports of a disturbance at the 5700 block of Rocky Mountain Court shortly after 3 a.m. Officers found Quinn Hennessy, 45, suffering from head injuries inflicted by fists and feet. Hennessy was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Witnesses said Tauanuu and Faumui were responsible for Hennessy’s injuries, and had continued to beat him after he could no longer defend himself. Faumui was charged with second-degree assault and jailed on $25,000 cash bail, while Tauanuu was charged with fourth-degree assault and jailed on $1,500 cash-or-corporate bail; both men’s bail conditions forbade them from making contact with witnesses to the assault.
Tauanuu was able to make bail, but was re-arrested Monday on a charge of witness tampering. A husband and wife who had witnessed the assault said Tauanuu drove by their home, shouting at the husband that he was “coming for him and for his home too,” before pointing at two other houses and saying he was coming for them too.
Tauanuu’s bail on the witness-tampering charge was set at $25,000 cash. In addition, his assault charge was increased to second-degree assault at arraignment.
