July 24, 2011|by Kevin Wells

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Fairbanks 49ers finished the regular season with a 15 and 5 state record, and have shown no signs of slowing down in the state championship tournament.

Fairbanks, the number two seed, defeated number three seed Service, 11-4 on Sunday to advance into the finals of the winner's bracket.  The 49ers will next face either South or Dimond.  That game was postponed due to rain.

the 49ers racked up four runs in the second inning and scored three more times in the sixth to pull away from the Cougars early.  Tanner Shoemaker went 4 for 4 and Thys Grogan also collected four hits for Fairbanks.

Two teams were eliminated on Sunday.  Kenai sent West home with a 15-7 decision, and The Alaska Road Warriors shut out Chugiak, 1-0.
