ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Dimond Lynx broke open a tie game with four runs in the top of the eighth inning to pull away from the Fairbanks 49ers for a 6-2 win, sending the defending state champions back to the Alaska State American Legion Baseball Championship Game.
Mitchell McCoy delivered the tie-breaking RBI double for the Lynx, while Sagan Osborne capped the rally with a two-run double.
Dimond will take on South in the finals, but the Wolverines will have a significant advantage. They are undefeated in the double elimination tournament, so the Lynx will have to beat them twice on Friday to capture the crown. These two teams also met in the finals of the state high school tournament, with South prevailing in 12 innings.
The championship game is set for 2:00 Friday at Mulcahy Stadium. If Dimond wins, that will force a winner-take-all game at 6:00.
