ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage police are investigating a nearly head-on collision on the Glenn Highway involving one of the department's officers.
The crash happened near the McCarrey Overpass at about 3:15 a.m. Sunday.
APD spokesperson Marlene Lammers said Officer Jennifer Pierce was leaving a call in Muldoon and driving inbound on the Glenn when 21-year-old Jariss Black, who was driving outbound in a 2007 gold BMW, crossed the median and two lanes of traffic before side-swiping Pierce's patrol vehicle.
Anchorage firefighters had to extricate Pierce, who was trapped inside her car.
APD said alcohol was not involved but speed may have been a factor.
"She has non-life-threatening injuries but she does have a long road to recovery ahead of her," Lammers said of Pierce. "She sustained some severe hip injuries so she's got a pretty long road ahead of her."
No arrests have been made as of Sunday, but APD is asking anyone who might have witnessed the collision or the driving behavior of the gold BMW to call the traffic investigator at 786-2669.
